As many of you know, one of the top tasks on Ferrari’s current “to do” list is to offer a dose of fresh metal in the 599 department. The Prancing Horse was supposed to offer a facelift for the 599 next year, but it seems that plans have changed.
The only thing from the original plan that stays is the launch year. As for the beast that is waiting to unleash its V12 power, this will be much more interesting than we expected - the company will introduce an all-new model, as motortrend.com reports.
The decision has been taken based on the Ferrari Four’s success, with the upcoming car being based on the FF. Despite the fact that the competition strongly believes in carbon fiber, Ferrari chose to stick to its aluminum construction techniques to put the car on a diet, in order to cut emissions and enhance performance.
Under the hood, we’ll find an updated version of the 599 GTO’s powerplant, a 6.3-liter naturally-aspirated V12 unit that will rely on direct injection to offer a high level of efficiency. It is rumored that the mill will churn out around 700 hp.
As for the rest of the tech story, the 599 replacement will follow the California's, 458's and FF’s recipes, using a multi-link rear axle and a seven-speed dual-clutch transaxle. It seems that the vehicle won’t also inherit the FF’s all-wheel-drive system, offering a traditional rear-wheel-drive layout.
Our say: We're waiting to see if Ferrari will also infect this model with the hybrid virus...
