Ferrari Still Think of Vettel Move

With all eyes on the Fernando Alonso – Ferrari drama in recent weeks, people tended to overlook a potential switch for Sebastian Vettel to the Italian team. Of course, that's not possible only until after the upcoming season, but then again, theoretically, so is Alonso's move.

Both Alonso's and Vettel's contracts run out at the end of 2010, but nobody bothered to suggest Vettel as Kimi Raikkonen's future replacement. Asked about the possibility following last weekend's German Grand Prix, Ferrari's boss Stefano Domenicali was his usual self: he didn't confirm it, but then again didn't deny it either. Just enough for people to start talking.

Never say never. I like him very much; his character is very positive and independent,” Domenicali was quoted as saying for Germany's Auto Bild. “For his age he is far ahead both technically and mentally,” added the Italian official, reminding us of someone who used to have the same qualities and helped Ferrari become the winningest team of the new millennium.

And talking about Michael Schumacher, Domenicali did not hold back from mentioning that the 7-time world champion speaks very highly of his much younger compatriot. According to the Ferrari principal, Schu is positive that Vettel will soon follow in his footsteps inside Formula One, although he did not mention whether it will be at Ferrari or not.

He has no doubts about how good Sebastian is,” added Domenicali.

It was not long ago that Vettel himself admitted that he dreams of racing for the prancing horse one day. Red Bull's Christian Horner then stepped in an denied all rumors regarding a potential switch for Vettel (to Ferrari) in 2010, as he insisted his team will seek a long-time extension with the 22-year old German later this year.
