Ferrari Signs Shell Extension Until 2015

With everyone around them signing new sponsors and extending old partnerships in the series, Scuderia Ferrari felt the need to secure their future in the series – from a technical standpoint – alongside their fuels and lubricants partners Shell. Consequently, the Italian team today confirmed a new deal with the Dutch company for the upcoming 5 years.

The extension of our relationship with Shell up to the end of 2015 is yet another step in the Scuderia’s plan to strengthen its long term future and is also a clear sign of continuity and the confidence placed in Ferrari by a company that is a world leader in its field,” said team principal Stefano Domenicali in a press release.

Shell has been with the Scuderia from the year it was established in 1929 and has played a significant role in many of our successes. Striving for excellence, a passion for competition, team work, technology transfer from track to street: these are the values we share with Shell and which characterize what is a unique partnership in the history of motor sport,” added the Ferrari principal.

According to the statement released by the Ferrari, this weekend's Australian Grand Prix will be the 450th race contested by the Italian team while partnering Shell, the collaboration having so far scored about 22 world titles – drivers and manufacturers – and 154 race wins.

Shell has been an important partner for Ferrari especially through the last few months, when the new rules of the FIA – refueling ban – has led to all the teams in the series seeking for fuel efficiency from their fuel & lubricant partners. Apparently, Ferrari has the thirstiest engines in Formula One, meaning Shell had a lot of work to do during the winter in order to compensate that.
