August is over and we've heard nothing but rumors about the introduction of the Ferrari 599 Roadster. Maybe the solution to the problem would be to... report a new piece of unofficial information regarding a new topless Ferrari.
This time we are talking about an open top incarnation of the 458 Italia. According to Auto.it, the Prancing Horse is working on the 458 Spider GTS, with the vehicle being in the early development stages.
This means that the list of details about the car is pretty short. It seems that the topless 458 will ditch the canvas roof used by the cabrio version of the 430. Instead, the roadster will come with an electric powered glass roof that flips behind the seats.
As we said, this is only a rumor, so we can’t be sure that the vehicle wont’t feature another solution for the roof. One possibility would by a folding hardtop, just like the one used on the California model.
From the roof down, the vehicle will be identical to the coupe version. This means that we’ll get the same 4499 cc V8 powerplant that uses direct injection and delivers 570 hp at a screaming 9,000 rpm and a maximum torque at 6,000 rpm.
The coupe incarnation of the 458 Italia only needs 3.4 seconds to leave the 62 mph mark behind and can reach a top speed of 325 km/h. We expect Ferrari to use its engineering magic to offer similar figures for the Spyder version of the supercar. The anticipation will certainly kill us...
