Ferrari Have No Clue on F10 Performance Level

Ferrari have undoubtedly become the hit of the day in Formula One, as the Italian team dominated the Valencia test meeting from one point to another earlier this week. Both Felipe Massa and Fernando Alonso posted fastest lap times throughout the days they took the Ferrari F10 to the track, with the latter also scoring the best lap time of the week at the Ricardo Tormo Circuit.

However, the technicians down at Maranello remain cautious over their 2010 challenger's form in testing, as they have really no clue on how quick the car is when compared to the other single-seaters.

We see that we are fast but we don't know how much we are fast compared to the others. The good thing is that...all the calculations and all the evaluations during the design and production of the new car are seeing a good result on the track. The feedback in general was good. It is a good baseline to develop the car for the next test and the first few races,” said Ferrari's technical director Aldo Costa.

According to the Ferrari official, the F10 will debut some new mechanical changes on the Jerez track next week, as compared to the package presented at the Valencia meeting. Additionally, the Scuderia will debut some new aerodynamic parts for their car two weeks from now, during the 3rd test of the season (still at Jerez).

Despite their great pace in Valencia, Ferrari's rivals played down the Scuderia's head start in the preparations for the 2010 Formula One season, insisting that only further tests will show the true pace of the 2010 challengers. Additionally, only 7 teams have come to the Ricardo Tormo Circuit this week for the first test of the season, with the rest of the teams likely to debut their new cars starting Jerez.
