Ferrari Fuel Alonso Rumors

Amid speculation that Fernando Alonso will be confirmed at Ferrari for the 2010 season, team principal Stefano Domenicali did nothing but to fuel those rumors following the Italian Grand Prix last weekend. When asked about Alonso's move to Maranello, the Italian manager answered evasively.

I think that as we said, we don't want to discuss this now because I don't think it is correct. As you know, Kimi has a contract with us next year and this is what we can say now,” said Domenicali after the Monza race.

Kimi Raikkonen has been widely rumored to leave the Scuderia at the end of the year, despite having a deal with Ferrari until the end of 2010. Following Ferrari's official confirmation of their business partnership with Spanish banking firm Grupo Santander, it is believed the latter will pay off Kimi's remaining year of contract.

Ferrari was initially expected to announce Alonso as their race driver for 2010 during the Italian Grand Prix last weekend, but the Italian team only confirmed their deal with Santander. It is believed the reason why Ferrari's CEO Luca di Montezemolo is delaying that decision is because of Felipe Massa's unstable physical condition.

Despite those rumors, Kimi Raikkonen remains the driver to have scored the most points in the last 4 races this year, as he again made the podium (4th consecutive) at Monza. The Fin has therefore secured 5th place in the overall classification following his 30-point score in the last few races. Asked if he thinks Kimi's great shape is related in any way to Massa's condition, Domenicali hoped that isn't the case.

I don't know. I hope not! The Kimi that we see in this second half of the season is really very strong, very consistent, always on the podium, always there. He has improved significantly, but that is the Kimi that we know very well since he was world champion with us two years ago,” added the Italian boss.
