It is 2012 and you can now buy what used to be but an unattainable dream for around €30,000 ($37,000) - the Ferrari F355. For the money you get a mid-engined V8 sports car with 380 hp with one of the best engine notes in the business.
Also, if you’re into gadgets, the F1 version comes with some of the first properly-workingpaddle shifters ever fitted to a production car, and the F355 was genuinely a mass-market car, with over 11,000 of them being made throughout its 5 year lifespan (1995 - 2000).
This particular example has had an aftermarket exhaust fitted, but it doesn’t seem to be overly-loud and the engine note of that 100 hp per liter V8 is as crisp and lovely as ever. The F355 is also a great handle and a very rewarding car to drive on a deserted piece of back road.
If you do get a chance to buy one of these cheaply, go for it, because it will probably be the best car you’ve ever owned and one which is surprisingly durable and reliable, for an old Ferrari, that is.
