Ferrari Defends Criticism of Valencia Race

Ferrari have continued to sustain their point of view regarding the poor decisions made by the FIA stewards during the Sunday race in Valencia. After Fernando Alonso publicly hit out at the poor decision-making in the European Grand Prix, Ferrari themselves have moved to calling the race a “scandal” and urging the international body to bring some clarifications on the current safety car rules.

Needless to say, their stance were not shared by their championship rivals Red Bull or McLaren Mercedes – the latter actually had one of their drivers, namely Lewis Hamilton, pass the safety car on the track – who argued that what happened to the two Ferrari drivers was simply a misfortunate situation.

The Scuderia issued another statement today, through team principal Stefano Domenicali, in which it insists the Italians have every reason to be upset with how the stewards solved the situation on Sunday afternoon.

We need to be careful by avoiding to take a counter-constructive attitude and complaining just for the sake of it, because it's useless. We need to be very calm at these times, but we can't pretend nothing has happened. However, I repeat, rationality must prevail over emotions, which are very strong,” said Domenicali.

Looking back during the post-race analysis, it's clear that you are advantaged by not following the rules because at the end of day you gained more points. This is not alright from the point of view of the principle of the sporting regulation, and we need to work on it. I think we need to believe in the principles: it worked this way today, let's hope it's different next time,” added the Italian official.
