Ferrari Confirm Massa Until the End of 2012

In the wake of rumors that Felipe Massa might be ousted by Ferrari at the end of this season, the Scuderia’s president Luca di Montezemolo made it very clear that the Brazilian driver will wear the all-red race suit at least until the end of 2012.

Massa’s ongoing contract with the Prancing Horse runs out at the end of next year, but allegations have been made recently about a potential split between the two parties after the 2011 campaign. Mark Webber and Nico Rosberg have been named potential replacements in the media, but di Montezemolo begged to differ in a recent interview with the CNN.

Yes. He has a contract with us for this year and for next year. So absolutely yes, no question about it,” answered the Italian, when asked if Massa will stay at Maranello until the end of his contract.

After poor efforts in 2009 and 2010, Massa managed to somehow improve his form in the beginning of 2011, although he is still behind teammate Fernando Alonso in the overall classification. As for the Spaniard, di Montezemolo has much higher plans for the 2-time world champion, as he’s hopeful Alonso will drive Ferrari F1 cars “for a long time.”

He is one of the best drivers I have seen in my career, very strong in the mind, pushing with the team in a constructive way, very close to the team. So I want to have Alonso for a long time,” added the Ferrari boss, who recently rated Alonso just as high as 7-time world champion Michael Schumacher.
