Ferrari Boss Demands Clear Regulations for 2011 F1 Season

With the 2009 season still lying in the back of his head, Ferrari's president Luca di Montezemolo has urged the International Automobile Federation (FIA) to clear up the technical rulebook for the 2011 season of Formula One.

Two years back, when the series suffered a major technical boost up with the new aerodynamic regulations, Ferrari and all the other front-runners were caught off-guard. Consequently, the Scuderia won a single race that season, while rivals McLaren had to settle for 2 victories. While on the right path to recovering the lost ground to Red Bull Racing, Ferrari now want the 2011 rules to be crystal clear for anyone, in order to avoid another situation like the one in 2009.

As you all know, the Kinetic Energy Recovery System (KERS) will return to the series in 2011, while double diffusers will be banned from the sport. Additionally, Bridgestone will no longer provide racing rubber for the teams, as they have handed over that responsibility to Pirelli. Finally, it is believed drivers will be able to control the angle of their front wing when approaching a rival car, in order to improve his overtaking chances.

This last technical innovation is “not set in stone,” according to Williams' co-owner and engineering boss Patrick Head, leading di Montezemolo to send out a clear message to the FIA.

I hope we start the season with total clarity as regards the regulations. I am not worried about it, but our experience of 2009 still grates,” said the Ferrari boss during the Italian marque's end-of-season event at Valencia.

Ferrari, as all other teams in the F1 roster, are already in an advanced stage of developing their racer for the 2011 campaign, so a regulations' clear up is necessary for a competitive design for next year.
