Ferrari 488 Pista Spider Looks Like a Record Car in Live Footage

While the fixed-roof Ferrari 488 Pista still feels like a machine that has just been taken out of the oven, the Prancing Horse dropped the Spider incarnation of the track special over the weekend. The 488 Pista Spider made its public debut at Pebble Beach, enjoying the Californian sun.

With the Prancing Horse betting on American's love of fast open-top machines, the automaker has also prepared a spectacular livery for the newcomer - a blue stripe relentlessly goes from the nose to the bottom of the white supercar.

"This continual expansion of the stripe recalls the movement of the airflow and exalts the lines of the car," the carmaker explains.

While still being heavier than the Coupe, the Spider remains a light toy, as its dry weight sits at 1,380 kg. The engine remains unchanged and we're talking about a twin-turbo 3.9-liter V8 delivering 720 hp and 770 Nm (568 lb-ft) of twist.

Just like the Coupe, the Spider needs 2.85 seconds to cover the 0 to 100 km/h (62 mph) sprint. Nevertheless, the first can play the 0 to 200 km/h (124 mph) game in 7.6 seconds, while the open-air model needs an extra 0.4 seconds for the task. Even so, the maximum velocity remains unchanged, sitting at 340 km/h (211 mph).

If you happen to be less than satisfied with the 20-inch diamond-finish wheels, you should know that the list of optional extras includes one-piece carbon fiber rims that are 20 percent lighter.

The cabin is a place where the special edition treatment is obvious. Given the diet of the supercar, the cabin is covered in Alcantara (lighter than leather) and carbon fiber, while the door handles have been replaced with leather straps. Oh, and let's not forget the missing carpets (the floor is covered with aluminum plates).

And since the said motor is the most potent in the Prancing Horse's history, this makes the Ferrari 488 Pista Spider a record-setting open-air model.

Until we get to see the Italian hero at work in the real world, you can check out its details the live video below, as well as the live photos above.
