Fauzy Would Sign for Lotus F1 Team Immediately

Fairuz Fauzy revealed last weekend that he did not receive any offer from the newly formed Formula One team Lotus for the upcoming season. As confirmed by the International Automobile Federation a few weeks ago, the Malaysian team will make their return – most of the pundits argue that this will in fact be a debut – in Formula One as part of the 13-team entry list strategy for 2010.

Although bearing the name of the famous marque, Lotus F1 Team will be supported entirely out of Malaysian cash and will use Cosworth engines in their first few years of F1.

As for the team's strategy in terms of drivers' lineup, there is still no word from team principal Tony Fernandes. The AirAsia founder did reveal, however, some of the candidates for the job. Among those eyed by Lotus F1 Team there are, as one might have easily suspected, a couple of Malaysian drivers.

Both Fauzy and Alex Yoong seem to be on the contenders' list for a Formula One spot, though we're not sure if the team wants to enter the series with 2 inexperienced home drivers or throw only one into the mix, alongside an F1 veteran. In addition, it seems Yoong's role with the team might be a bit more elaborated, in the sense of him becoming deputy team principal for Team Lotus.

While Yoong did feel how it's like to drive a Formula One car – he used to race for Minardi F1 Team back in 2002 – Fauzy only experienced some A1 GP World Cup of Motorsport and GP2 drives so far. The 27-year old is currently racing in the World Series by Renault and admitted he would be honored to take the race-driving job, if offered to him.

Of course, if the offer comes, it will be like a dream come true, and I'm more than ready to take it up,” said Fauzy, according to the New Straits Times.
