Fauzy to Drive the Lotus T127 Four More Times in 2010

It's yet unclear what Fairuz Fauzy's future in the Lotus F1 Team will be – at least in terms of the 2011 Formula One season – considering that the Malaysian backed team currently employs two of the most experienced grand prix winners on the grid. What is certain, however, is the fact that he was now gifted with the opportunity to drive the Lotus T127 on four more practice sessions this season.

A media statement from Lotus confirmed it, revealing that Fauzy will take the wheel of the 2010 challenger in the maiden practice sessions of the British Grand Prix (Silverstone), Hungary (Hungaroring), Singapore (Marina Bay) and season finale Abu Dhabi. That will add up to the mileage he had in the Malaysian Grand Prix, in front of his home crowd.

I really can’t wait to see how far we’ve moved forward since I was last out on track, and I’m very proud to have been given the chance to play another active role in our continuing development,” said Fauzy in a media release.

I did the shakedown of chassis 04 at Snetterton a couple of weeks ago, but obviously couldn’t really push there, so it’ll be great to get back out and add whatever I can to help the team keep moving towards the midfield. To start out at Silverstone is going to be very special indeed – I live literally a few metres from the track, so I’ll have a lot of friends, family and fans there to cheer me,” added the Malaysian driver.

Lotus' team principal Mike Gascoyne also admitted his delight for getting to offer Fauzy this opportunity, as he reckons this is a way of the team thanking him for his contribution within the organization. Team boss Tony Fernandez emphasized the role Fauzy has had in developing the 2010 car so far.

I’m absolutely delighted Fairuz will back in the hot seat at four more races. While Fairuz isn’t yet in a position to score points, his technical input will provide us with more very useful data, and that’s obviously very important. Equally important is the inspirational role he continues to play which will, I believe, also help us take another step forward,” added Fernandes.
