It takes a special brand of douchebag to treat his own child worse than a dog: one man from New Jersey was arrested and charged after locking his son inside a hot car so he could go out for drinks.
It happened in Egg Harbor Township and the man has been identified by police as Brandon Morgan, 32. At the time, he was with his 3-year-old boy, whom he left locked inside the car while he headed inside a Chickie’s and Pete’s for drinks.

Available at the bottom of the page is the press release from the Egg Harbor Township Police Department, as posted on the official Facebook page. The father has been charged and released on a summons.

The good news is that the child was not hurt, so this incident doesn’t add to the already striking death count for 2019. He has been released to his mother, who showed up at the scene when police called her.

“The 3 year old child was left in the vehicle for approximately 3 hours in 85 degree weather with the vehicle not running while his father was inside the restaurant/bar,” the police say. The father didn’t leave the AC on or the windows open, and didn’t supply the child with drinking water.

When police arrived on the scene, passersby had already removed the child from the vehicle and provided first aid.

“Arrested was Brandon Morgan, 32 years of age from Atlantic City,” the PD further says. “Morgan was charged with Endangering the Welfare of a Child. Morgan was processed on this charge and released on a summons per bail reform with a date to appear in court.”

So far in 2019, 21 children have died after being intentionally left or forgotten inside a locked vehicle. In hot weather, cars act like ovens for the children inside: they heat up within minutes and heatstroke intervenes.

For the record, leaving a child alone in a car with the AC on or the windows rolled down isn’t a smart idea either. Do that and you’ll be charged with neglect.
