BMW has already confirmed to UK magazine AutoExpress that they will be bringing their first ever front-wheel drive model ever, the 1-Series Gran Turismo at the Paris motor show. The car will most likely be shown as a thinly disguised concept.
Today, we’ve learned from anther British publication, autocar.co.uk, that it won’t be the only Gran Turismo shown at the Paris Motor Show this year, as the German automaker will also be showing us the 3-Series GT or Gran Turismo, a car we’ve been following for a while now as it undergoes testing in various places around the world.

But the car shown will not a test vehicle or a full production variant. Instead, BMW is going to distill the essence of the car and only show a concept version to capture everybody’s attention.

The 3-Series Gran Turismo will use the platform from the long wheelbase 3er sold in China. The key difference being that the GT will have a sloped backside and a large hatch opening for the boot.

The complete range of engines and drivetrains should be transfered from the F30 3-Series to the GT, and there’s even talk of a new ActiveHybrid with a 2.0-liter instead of the usual 3.0-liter from the 335i.

autoevolution will be attending the Paris Motor Show 2012, so stay tuned for some real up close and personal shots of the vehicles, as well as for first-hand details of the motorized contraptions presented at the event.
