Extreme Super GT Crash - Driver Wounded

During the latest Super GT race held at the Fuji racetrack, Tim Bergmeister’s Porsche can be seen going into the wall just outside the pit lane much too quickly.
The strangest thing is that the accident occurred on the straight at Fuji, a very unlikely place for anything to go wrong. Unfortunately, none of the cameras captured the accident from other angles, so we can’t be sure of the cause.

The driver, Tim Bergmeister, was taken to hospital in serious condition. He has severe lung injuries and broken bones and he will need a few months to get back on his feet and hopefully make a full recovery.

Sadly, crashing is a part of racing and it is inevitable for any and all drivers. We can be thankful, however, for the advances made in recent years when it comes to the safety of these racing cars. If this accident had happened a few decades back, the driver’s chances of getting out alive would have been much slimmer.
