The world of SUVs is constantly evolving, as these vehicles can no longer afford to be entered in the gas-guzzling category. This means that automotive producers are working hard to make these cars more efficient in order to follow the current trend of the market.

One of the future SUVs that is preparing to come to us as a new generation is the Mercedes-Benz ML. Being curious to see what progress the German automotive producer has made with the development of the car, which is expected to go on sale in the second half of next year, we decided to send a special team of spy shooters to hunt the car.

After a few efforts, a Mercedes ML testing squad was spotted in Swakopmund, Namibia, an usual location for desert and off-road testing. As you can see in the images, the German carmaker is using two ML test vehicles, one of which was caught uncovered.

The future ML’s front fascia borrows multiple elements from the GL models. The foglights now come in a twin layout, using chrome mountings. As for the headlights, these are pretty similar to the ones used by the recently-launched second generation of the CLS. The GL influences can also be observed at the rear of the future ML.

As for the efficiency part, various media reports indicate that the ML might be offered with a diesel-electric hybrid powertrain or will include a plug-in hybrid powertrain that will use a 3.5-liter V6 in conjunction with an 80 hp electric motor. Of course, Mercedes will also introduce a petrol-electric hybrid powertrain that should be borrowed from the current ML450 Hybrid.
