As you might remember, cars weren’t the only anthropomorphic characters in the first installment of the Cars franchise. In fact, there were trucks, trains, busses, combines that looked like cows and helicopters. Now there’s a new movie coming our way, and Disney teamed up with Pixar to provide us with even more variants for them to eventually turn into merchandise, but we’re not here to talk about that.
No, Disney has chosen to make a spinoff, taking things up and above with a new movie called... Planes. What’s next, Boats or Motorcycles? Who knows...
We’ve got a little minute-long teaser trailer to show you, featuring the underdog main character and a couple of hot-shot Top Gun F-18 Hornets. The action takes place on the deck of an american nuclear-powered aircraft carrier, which doesn’t have a face, but has a big eye on top of the captain’s bridge.
There’s even a stealthy B2 bomber featured, though we don’t know what his role will be in the movie.
The main character is the underdog, probably trying to prove himself against the big boys in the Air Force. We’re no aeronautics specialists, but he looks to be one of those World War II P-51 Mustangs, though the air scoop is on top, and he might be powered by the American-built Allison engine and not the Rolls Royce Merlin. Unlike the military version, the colors are more vivid and the undercarriage is fixed in place, so he’s an aerobatics specialist.
We’ve gotten a bit to serious with analyzing a movie that’s meant for kids between the age of 7 and 70, so we'll tell you that Planes is expected to hit cinemas in the summer of 2013.
