Ener1 to Supply Batteries for Volvo C30 BEV

Volvo today presented the C30 BEV at the Frankfurt Auto Show, an all-electric concept that is supposed to preview the company's future range which, according to Volvo officials, is going to rely on several electric models in the near years. We already detailed you the car so we're now going to talk about the battery supplier who, according to a report by Reuters, comes from the United States.

Ener1 is the company selected by Volvo to manufacture lithium-ion batteries for the new electric car prototype which, according to some preliminary specs, is capable of traveling 95 miles (150 km) per charge.

Only a little is known about Ener1 but what's more important is that the battery maker recently purchased 31 percent of Norwegian-based electric car manufacturer Think Global. Ener1 is also holding a partnership with Nissan Motor.

As for the car, it can reach a maximum speed of 80 mph (129 km/h) and accelerate from 0 to 62 in 11 seconds. Because it is driven by electricity, it emits no carbon dioxide and uses no fuel, while providing enough room for four passengers.

"The consumer must feel that this type of car is attractive both to drive and own. In order to ensure this, we feel that electric cars will have to be as comfortable and safe and offer similar levels of performance as cars with other power sources. The learning from the C30 BEV project will help us to fulfill all these criteria's and showcase Volvo's determination to drive developments in the field of electrification," says Paul Gustavsson, Director of Electrification Strategy at Volvo Cars.
