Elektromotive Signs Deal With Chinese Energy Provider

Elektromotive, a major manufacturer of recharging stations for electric vehicles, announced today that it has signed an important agreement with one of China’s main energy providers, CLP (China Light and Power). A total of 20 Elektrobay charging units will soon be exported to Hong Kong, together with EBConnect management software that will gather usage data for billing and further scientific study.

“Energy companies and governments are beginning to recognise how critical a charging infrastructure is to support mass uptake of EVs, and it’s very gratifying to work with CLP on the implementation of a leading-edge billing platform,”
explained Elektromotive Managing Director, Calvey Taylor-Haw, according to a company press release.

The EBConnect system will allow China Light and Power to monitor how much energy is being used by each consumer and at what location. CLP will even be able to show the cost of using Elektrobays on motorists’ household utility bills. Chinese consumers will also be able to see how much they’ve charged-up through a web-based interface that also displays carbon savings.

“At present there are over 1,000 Elektrobay units installed worldwide.  In 2011 we are determined to increase the number and density of Elektrobay networks in the UK and overseas – notably through our dedicated export programmes in Europe, Asia and North America,” Taylor-Haw added.

The Elektrobays will be situated next to parking bays, within easy reach of an electric vehicle’s charging point. The charging socket is located under a secure, weather-proof door that can be accessed using a special key fob. With an output of 240 volts and 13 amps in the UK, or 230 volts and 16 amps in Europe, Elektrobay is compatible with all electric and plug-in electric hybrid vehicles.
