Motorcycle safety apps are becoming more and more common and sophisticated, and this is really good, especially as the number of vehicles on the roads is in constant growth. Here's one more piece of good news coming form Eat Sleep Ride, as their app can now detect a motorcycle crash and alert selected contacts.
The EatSleepRide iPhone app now has an in-app upgrade which grants the users access to Crashlight, a very sophisticated feature which can detect if the rider was involved in a motorcycle accident. The app uses the phone's hardware accelerometer and gyro and complex algorithms to differentiate between the shocks of dropping the device on the floor or colliding with a vehicle or stationary object.

In case a crash is detected, the app will contact the persons you selected as your emergency response team, via SMS, email and even by calling. The last recorded GPS position will also be forwarded for easy localization.

In case a false positive is triggered or if you even spilled but are alright, the Crashlight gives you a 3-minute margin before the alert is sent out. The option is around $3 (€2.3) and is an add-on to the EatSleepRide app current features:

Record your ride – Record your route, speed, elevation and lean angle on every turn.
Visualize your ride data – Replay your entire ride on a map and visualize your data on the dashboard.
Ride with a group – Share your location with only your group, via a map interface, or make yourself visible and discover nearby riders.
Share the best motorcycle roads – Never forget that incredible road. Share it, but trim the start and end points to maintain privacy.
Find nearby routes – Ride like a local and never miss the best motorcycle roads nearby.
Tell your story – Share bikes, events, images, video and more.
Explore rich crowd-sourced content – Explore ride reports, bike reviews, roads nearby and get help.
