DTM In HD Starting from 2011

After Formula 1 and the IndyCar Series (the latter will only be available in this form in the United Kingdom), another high-ranked motor racing series will be available in High Definition starting with the very 2011 campaign. We're talking about Germany's Deutsche Tourenwagen Masters.

The series has had several links to F1 in recent years – retired racers in F1 switching to DTM or reigning DTM champions starting a brand new F1 career – and getting to see those races in HD throughout the 2011 season will become another common element between them.

According to a statement released by the DTM bosses earlier today, the series will be available on 1080i and the TV partners WIGE Media AG will be the ones responsible with broadcasting it worldwide.

The HD coverage will comprise all the DTM events of the 2011 season – 11 rounds, plus a Showevent held on the Olympiastadion in Munich in mid-July – in addition to the DTM launch event scheduled for April 10, in Wiesbaden.

DTM’s German TV partner ARD is going to also broadcast its Saturday and Sunday coverage in the new format. The international TV distribution also offers DTM in the HD format and provides all the stations involved with the high definition pictures,” added the statement from DTM.

During the past edition of the DTM series, the championship was made available in no less than 213 countries, though 283 stations, enjoying a total broadcasting duration of more than 5,881 hours.
