When the long arm of the law has a 7-liter V8 powering it, criminals know they’re in trouble. That’s what’s currently happening in Texas, where a police department has introduced a C6 Corvette Z06 into their vehicle pool.
We are talking about the New Braunfels Police Department (NBPD), who is now chasing bad guys in a 2007 Corvette Z06. Imagine this - a drug dealer made his way up the ranks, grabbing this ‘Vette and carefully tinting both the windows and the light clusters. Well, now that the police has seized the car, they’ll go with the murdered theme, but they still have one dilemma - how to call it?

The NBPD has now launched a competition on their Facebook page, asking people for a potential nickname that would fit the car, as Corvetteforum writes.

Not necessarily surprising, the social media trolls were on duty, explaining how the car was introduced using taxpayers’ money.

Here’s what the authorities replied: "To be clear, this vehicle was awarded to NBPD as part of an asset distribution from the Federal DEA criminal case of a large drug distribution ring in our area. NBPD was instrumental in helping bring down that drug enterprise. Property seized during the course of an investigation is only awarded to the law enforcement agency after a court has determined that the suspect was involved in criminal activity and the proceeds (money) from that activity (i.e dealing drugs) paid for the items seized.

Moreover, the police were asked why the funds that could’ve resulted from the sale of the Corvette were not used to bring more officers into the department.

“There are only very specific things that seizure money can be used to pay for. More police officers, unfortunately, is not one of the them. We can not use seizure money to pay for more police officers,” the NBPD explained.

And still, the quest to name the machine goes on. From Optimus Crime to Copnado, children, who are the main target of the campaign, have come up with all sorts of designations.
