Driver Jumps into the Grand Canyon, Lives to Tell the Tale

The Grand Canyon, one of the most extraordinary piece of landscape this Earth has to offer, has been, through the eons, the sole witness of countless dramas. And we do mean the sole witness, as there are very few those who have had some type of accident there and lived to tell the tale.

An unnamed 21-year-old driver, however, is part of that category. At the beginning of the week, the young man was driving his car through the Grand Canyon National Park. At his own risk, and for reasons that still remain a mystery, the driver veered close, too close to the edge of the Canyon. Obviously, the next logical direction of travel was down. Some 200 feet down, to be more precise.

According to azdailysun.com, the driver jumped over the South Rim, below Twin Overlooks on Desert View Drive. This unwilling stunt, which otherwise might have cost him his life, ended in a rather good tone, as the young driver, although severely shaken, managed to escape pretty much unharmed.

He pulled out of the wreck of his car, which was dangling in a tree, climbed back up the rim and waved passing cars, in the hope that somebody would stop. Somebody did, and called the ambulance, which transported the driver to Flagstaff Medical Center where he was treated for non-life-threatening injuries.

As for the car, reports are that it remains stuck in the tree it landed on. According to the same source, authorities are now looking for ways to get the car out of there and restore the untamed look the Canyon usually has.
