Di Montezemolo Angry with Slow Teams

Ferrari's chairman Luca di Montezemolo once again slammed the newly entered teams of Formula One on grounds of slow cars. Needless to say, for anyone who caught a glimpse into the Canadian Grand Prix last weekend, Fernando Alonso could have easily challenge for the race win hadn't it been for the traffic problems midway through the race.

The Spaniard lost one position in the race two times due to slow cars, first to eventual race winner Lewis Hamilton and after that to 2nd placed Jenson Button. Although he didn't sound too angry with the situation after the race, Alonso emphasized the fact that he could have done a lot better without traffic issues in Montreal.

We could have won but we did not manage it because, on a few occasions, we paid a heavy price for the traffic. These things can happen to anyone in a race and this time it was our turn,” said the 2-time world champion after the race.

Going piggyback on that statement later this week – but on a more confrontational level – Di Montezemolo did not lose this chance to further blast the new teams, whose cars are still finishing 2 or 3 laps down at the end of each race.

Cars performing on the same level as GP2 cars should not be allowed to participate in F1; we are supposed to be racing on Sundays. Our car was good enough to challenge for victory (at the Canadian Grand Prix), so in the future let's hope we are not put a disadvantage while lapping cars. We have already gone through all that,” said the Italian boss in an interview with Gazzetta dello Sport.
