Alonso Happy with Canada Podium

After the disappointing race in Turkey, Fernando Alonso hailed his performance in the recent Canadian Grand Prix, despite the fact that his run was only good for 3rd place. Nevertheless, for the first time in the last 6 or 7 races, the performance shown by his Ferrari F10 was good all-round the Montreal weekend, from qualifying to race.

Even in the race, Alonso was at one time racing for 1st place, before traffic got in the way of his plans and demoted him to 2nd place, behind Lewis Hamilton. Later in the race, he lost that position to the second McLaren driver Jenson Button also because of traffic issues, but that didn't spoil his joy of finally fighting for a win in 2010.

It's great to be back on the podium and especially to be able to fight for the top places once again. Today, we could have won but we did not manage it because, on a few occasions, we paid a heavy price for the traffic,” said Alonso after the race.

These things can happen to anyone in a race and this time it was our turn. If we want to reach our objective, we must try and always finish on the podium and this result is a great motivation for a team that today did a great job, in terms of strategy and handling the pit stops,” added the Spaniard.

Additionally, he expressed his optimism for the upcoming race in Valencia, where his team really hopes to make a difference this season with the addition of several updates on the F10. If the result at Montreal was unexpectedly good, what the team is aiming for in Valencia is a major upgrade of its all-round performance.

Now we have a lot of updates coming for the next Grand Prix in Valencia: I really hope they will allow us to be competitive on all types of track. I have never finished on the podium in my second home race, after the one in Barcelona and I would love to do that in two weeks time,” concluded Alonso.
