DEWALT to Sponsor Ambrose

The problems experienced by Richard Petty Motorsports (RPM) starting the 2010 season are starting to become a thing of the past. Following the financial drama which nearly buried the team, RPM is slowly getting back on its feet and begins to draw in some sponsors' money.

Having confirmed its presence in the 2011 Sprint Cup with drivers A.J. Allmendinger (driving the No. 43) and Marcos Ambrose (behind the wheel of the No. 9 Ford), RPM and DEWALT announced this week the signing of a sponsorship agreement.

DEWALT, who missed the last season after withdrawing at the end of 2009, will become the sponsor for Ambrose's No. 9. His car will wear the power tool manufacturer's logo during each race of the season which is about to start.

"DEWALT is well-positioned to re-enter the sport and partner with Richard Petty Motorsports to sponsor Marcos Ambrose for the 2011/2012 season," said Jon Howland, director of brand marketing at DEWALT.

"We value the opportunity to engage with our end-users through this platform, and we feel that Richard Petty, a NASCAR Hall of Famer and seven-time NASCAR Cup champion, and his race team, will represent our brand well."

RPM is currently taking a shot at the title with only the two teams mentioned above, after ditching the four-car scheme due to financial problems, which started with the decision of George Gillett to sell English soccer club FC Liverpool, which he owned together with Tom Hick.

The racing assets of the team are currently owned by an investor group comprised of Medallion Financial Corp., DGB Investments and Richard Petty.
