If you expected Peugeot to launch a brand new hot hatch this year at the Paris Motor Show, then you probably were a little bit disappointed by the 308 GT. Sure, it's fast, but not a true rival to the hot hatch grand masters.
Once again, the company is putting the 308 R concept on show at a major auto event without announcing it's going into production. Adding insult to injury, the 308 GT, which is available with a diesel engine, is called the range-topping ‘dynamic flagship’.

We first saw this awesome red and black machine last year and check up on it in Paris. Yes, it still looks good and very relevant in a time when big power+small car=lots of fans. The same people who make rally cars had a hand in engineering this radical concept, which boasts 26MM lower suspension, 30mm wider tracks and 380mm ventilated disk brakes.

We believe the French company has all the tools it needs to build an excellent car. They've already put the 270 horsepower 1.6-liter turbo engine on the RCZ R which has been on sale since 2013. It's won the praise of many and proved it's fast by beating a Megane RS in a drag race.

Company politics could have a big role to play in the 308 R's future. Rumors suggests the RCZ is going to be canceled, hinting that Peugeot doesn't have the sales to back up fast flagships. But you never hear MINI saying it will stop making JCWs just because people aren't buying enough of them.

Mihnea's favorite cars have already been built, the so-called modern classics from the '80s and '90s. He also loves local car culture from all over the world, so don't be surprised to see him getting excited about weird Japanese imports, low-rider VWs out of Germany, replicas from Russia or LS swaps down in Florida.
