Like we said on previous occasions, the most comicbook-like Hollywood version of the Batmobile came in 1989, when director Tim Burton commissioned the design for a car that embodies the Art Deco style. It was that successful exactly because it managed to get close to the actual hero car from Batman: The Animated Series. To find that a scale model of the original one will hit the market was probably the best news we got today.
DC Comics’ collectibles division has recently announced they are planning to release a 24-inch long Batmobile that is inspired by the actual Art Deco ride Batman drove in the animated series we all remember. The scale model will come with light up headlights, breaks and engine and will have wheels that will be able to move independently. Two 6-inch action figures can be fitted inside, which is why the toy will be released along with a two-pack of figured from the “Mask of Phantasm” movie.

There has never been a Batmobile based off the series in this scale before and we are very excited to be the first,” Kevin Kiniry, vice president of Creative Services at DC Entertainment told MTV News. And we can’t agree more, after all there has to a be a reason people still construct real life Batmobiles after the 1989 model’s blueprints today.

The Batmobile toy will hit the market in October, so we’re going to have to resist the temptation to break into DC’s factories. As to the $100 price tag, we’re seriously considering buying two.

PS: since we’re already going that way, we listed the animated series opening video below, just in case you haven’t already turned all nostalgic and emotional.
