Dana Engine Coolers Featured on 2011 Hyundai and Kia Models

Dana Holding Corporation announced that it is supplying engine oil cooling technology on the new 2011 Hyundai Sonata and Kia Sorento as well as the 2011 Hyundai Santa Fe, with all the models using a 2.4 liter powerplant that develops up to 200 horsepower.

"Dana's leading global position in engine technology is helping customers such as Hyundai and Kia develop vehicles that feature robust, highly fuel efficient engines," said Ted Zielinski, Dana's director of engineering at Dana's Oakville, Ontario technology center. "We look forward to growing our relationship by continuing to create and develop solutions for their world-class powertrain technologies."

The engine oil cooler developed by Dana uses engine coolant or air-flow as the cooling mechanism, allowing the engine to lower and maintain its oil operating temperature low. Dana engineers designed an engine mounted cooler for the multi-port injection (MPI) and gasoline direct injection (GDI) engines, which offer a greater life span to the engine oil.

Dana collaborated with Hyundai and Kia to offer localized, cost-effective manufacturing and assembly solutions in North America, allowing the components to be easily transferred to final vehicle assembly sites in Montgomery, Alabama and West Point, Georgia. Dana will produce and assemble the engine oil coolers at its site in Rochester Hills, Michigan.

"Our manufacturing solutions, along with our ability to meet aggressive timelines without compromising quality, were instrumental in helping us earn this important first-time business with Hyundai and Kia," said Dwayne Matthews, vice president, Dana Power Technologies Group.
