A somewhat strange piece of news came yesterday from Romanian manufacturer Dacia. After years of way-above-expected success for the Logan model line, it would appear the carmaker is considering replacing it with a new range, in a few years time.
"Logan will stay for a few years, then it will be replaced with a new range, which will also bear another name. It will not only be a step forward in terms of quality, but in terms of performances as well. Not to mention quality,..." Constantin Stroe, Dacia vicepresident was quoted as saying by Mediafax.
The Logan model, launched in 2004, was first intended for the local market, as well as non-mainstream ones. The success of the model made the Renault, which owns Dacia since 1999, consider its expansion in countries not traditionally associated with low-cost vehicles, like Germany.
The gamble paid off, especially because of the economic crisis and Germany's scrappage incentive, as Dacia registered record sales. Other markets behaved in just about the same lines.
"Everybody talks about the Logan. Nice, but Logan will be short lived. Dacia is perennial, Logan is exchangeable. Something will follow Logan, who's life will end in a few years. A new family. In this lies the strength of the manufacturer," Stroe added.
In the five years since it appear, the Logan only received a facelift in 2008, alongside the pick-up and MCV body styles. The new model to join the range is the Kanjara, a Qashqai based SUV. Which makes us believe the so called replacement of the Logan name and line will still not come for some 5 years or so.
