The last example of the current generation MINI hatchback rolled off the Oxford assembly line, the British manufacturer announced today, adding that a total of 1,863,289 Mini hatches have been built since 2001.
At the same time, MINI revealed that Plant Oxford has already started production of the brand new 2014 MINI, which is set to hit British showrooms next spring.
“Having put a smile on over a million drivers’ faces across the globe, the last of the outgoing MINI Hatch drove off the production line at Plant Oxford today. With production of the new MINI Hatch underway, associates at the brand’s historic Oxfordshire home took a moment to recognise their achievements in building a car which has formed the backbone of MINI’s burgeoning global growth,” MINI said in a statement.
The brand new 2014 MINI Cooper will arrive with 1.5-liter three-cylinder and 2.0-liter four-cylinder TwinPower engines. The new hatch was officially unveiled earlier this month and showcased at the 2013 Los Angeles Auto Show.
