Crutchlow and Toseland Complete First Test with Yamaha

The first days of testing for the 2010 Yamaha World Superbike riders Cal Crutchlow and James Toseland completed successfully, though both of them were working with the team for the first time. The first day was about adapting the Yamaha R1 machines to their new riders.

Crutchlow had a high speed high side in the morning, but quickly recovered and made continuous time improvements during the day, as did Toseland.

“It was a good enough day apart from a stupid crash this morning after about 30 laps, there seemed to be something wrong with my rear tyre which caused me to high side. I hit my head and have had a few headaches today but ok apart from that. The testing has gone well, we’ve done quite reasonable times, all credit to the guys who’ve worked really hard. We haven’t changed much on the bike today, just tried to make it my bike a bit, tomorrow we’ll do some more and see how we go,”
Crutchlow said after the first day of practice.

“I’m feeling really positive, it’s obviously my first time on the bike, it felt a bit alien after two years on a GP bike but the balance of the bike felt good and I’m really impressed with how the team’s working, I’ve got an old friend of mine as a chief engineer,”
Toseland added.

The second and final day of the first test session saw both the riders and the Yamaha team working to bring the R1 bikes to their riding styles, while Cutchlow and Toseland were significantly better compared to the day before.

“A good enough second day for us again. I think we’ve worked hard looking at a few different things with the shocks. We haven’t changed that much yet so we’ve got some work to do. We’ve changed a couple of things and had a play around with the electronics which has been good,” Crutchlow said.

“We’ve had a good test and have a lot of information to work on for next year. I like the bike, it’s so much different to what I’m used to though so it’s taking some time to tame the beast! When you ride a heavier bike you have to take your time to find its limits,” Toseland added.
