Crisis Won't Matter for Mosley in Presidential Elections

The clock is ticking for FIA president Max Mosley to finally make up his mind about his potential application for a 5th consecutive mandate in the upcoming FIA elections. The international ruling body is to elect a new head in October this year and, although many have asked Mosley to retain his seat, the 69-year old insisted he has not come to a decision.

Mosley revealed, earlier this year, that his decision to stand or not for a 5th consecutive mandate is strictly linked with the new changes happening in Formula One. The Englishman said he will not leave his position within the FIA when the international body needs him the most, especially since the current political background is a mined field.

Mosley revealed, in an interview with Germany's Deutsche Presse Agentur, that there are few people in the FIA that want him out, while the situation is somehow reversed when it comes to the Formula One teams. However, as argued by the FIA president, the latter are of no interest to him in the decision-making process.

Some of the formula one teams are not, but that doesn't matter, they don't have a vote. So it's a difficult decision,” said Mosley, who also insisted that the current political battle between the FIA and the F1 teams will most likely come to a conclusion before the October elections. Under the circumstances, the ongoing war will in no way influence his decision.

Not an awful lot, because it will certainly be resolved one way or the other before any election, and hopefully before I have to decide,” added Mosley.

The Briton is yet to come to a compromise with the Formula One Teams Association (FOTA) on the 2010 rules, as the team's body has confirmed during the course of last weekend – through the voice of Ferrari's Stefano Domenicali – that it will not commit to their 2010 programmes unless the budget cap proposal will be scrapped from the F1 regulations for good.
