As a body style, the shooting brake has always been reserved for high-end sports cars and grand tourers. The Ferrari FF GTC4Lusso is a case in point, as is the Ferrari 250 GT SWB Breadvan that won the GT class in the Guards Trophy and Ollon-Villars Hillclimb in 1962. However, getting into the top-shelf shooting brake club is an expensive affair for most people.
The least costly way to get your shooting brake kicks is to acquire a Mercedes-Benz CLA Shooting Brake, albeit you can’t buy one in the United States. But then again, the most powerful of CLAs has to settle for a force-fed four-cylinder, which isn’t exactly the type of engine to make your hair stand on end. The Prancing Horse is a too expensive affair, so is there something such as a middle ground for people like you and me?

Introducing the 2017 Callaway Corvette AeroWagen. The nut jobs over at Callaway Cars are known for modifying General Motors products to a great extent, but the Old Lyme-based company is more than just your typical tuning outfit. This is why you’ll be able to buy a shooting brake conversion for the C7 Corvette by the end of the year. There’s no pricing available at the present moment, but do not expect the Corvette AeroWagen to cost an arm and a leg. The package consists of a single-piece lift back made from carbon fiber that not only makes the C7 Corvette look more exotic but also improves cargo capacity.

Callaway Cars uses the seals, lifts, and latches of the regular model’s hatch, which means that the AeroWagen can be converted back into a C7 Corvette whenever the owner feels like it. And yes, you can get the AeroWagen package for the Stingray and the Z06, which means that you have as much as 650 ponies.

Then again, if the supercharged LT4 V8 doesn’t have enough power to float your boat, Callaway Cars can up the go-faster ante to 757 horsepower and 777 lb-ft (1,053 Nm) if your pockets are deep enough.
