Corvette C7 May Get Downsized Engines

While we say the idea of putting a (possibly turbocharged) V6 engine under the bonnet of the all-new Corvette seems quite far-fetched to us, as well as bordering on sacrilege for the millions of devoted fans the Vette has acquired in its 59-year history, autocar.co.uk say that it is a distinct possibility.
Another possibility is the introduction of a 5.5-liter V8, as an entry level motor, leaving the 6.2-liter unit as a more upscale alternative.

If this smaller engine turns out to be real, it will most likely feature an all-aluminium block, a high compression ratio and direct injection. Now, since the new Vette is tipped to be much lighter than its predecessor, any of the aforementioned ideas are possible, but currently just that.

We say instead of a turbocharged V6, a smaller displacement naturally-aspirated V8 would be more than adequate for the ‘entry-level’ Vette, and it could even be less powerful than the one powering the current model, if the weight savings are as impressive as we have come to understand.
