German automaker Audi today confirmed recent rumors surrounding its new A3 model, saying that the United States Audi A3 2.0 TDI Clean diesel is expected to arrive in authorized dealerships in the first quarter of 2010. Audi also provided a list with the most important features of the upcoming model, explaining that BMW 1 Series and Volvo C30 are the top competitors for the 2010 A3. Oddly enough, Audi also said that the Mini Cooper S rivals the new model which is quite awkward taking into account dimensions, engines and market segments of the two vehicles.

However, we do know the upcoming A3 will be equipped with LED daytime running lights with optional xenon lights, unique tail lights with LED light guides and restyled interior and exterior design. In terms of dynamics, the car comes with speed-sensitive electromechanical power steering plus sporty McPherson front suspension and multilink independent rear suspension.

There's a single engine version available, namely a 2.0 TDI clean diesel engine producing 140 horsepower and 236 lb-ft of torque. The in-line 4 cylinder turbocharged diesel with common rail direction injection is matted to an S tronic dual clutch system and front-wheel drive.

  • There is an impressive lineup of standard features, as it follows:
  • Hill-hold assist (already standard on S tronic models)
  • Sirius satellite radio - standard on all
  • Leather seating surfaces - standard on all
  • Leather steering wheel - standard
  • Aux audio input – standard
  • Dual-zone climate control
  • 17” alloy wheels

Beside all the aforementioned features, the 2010 A3 is also an Audi model that excels in safety, as he was already awarded with a “Top Safety Pick” by the IIHS for top frontal/side/rear impacts.
