Colombian Race Driver Shot Dead by Assasins

Former Grand Prix driver Ricardo Londono-Bridge was shot to death on Saturday, in his home country Colombia. The news was reported by Colombia's Caracol Radio and the newspaper El Tiempo during the course of this weekend.

It has emerged that Londono was killed by assassins, who used guns to kill him and two of his business associates with whom he was at the time. The killing happened in the Boca de Tinajones beach resort, nearby Cispata Bay in San Bernardo del Viento.

Londono almost raced a full event in Formula One, back in 1981, when he was signed by Ensign Team to compete in the Brazilian Grand Prix. He only got to drive in the practice session at the Jacarepaguá, but his reasonably good performance did not get him a place on the Sunday grid. The International Automobile Federation (FIA) did not grant him with a professional license for racing because of his lack of experience.

He was later replaced by Marc Surer, who qualified for the race and scored an impressive 4th place overall.

Until the unfortunate incident on Saturday, 60-year old Londono ran a successful business in Cispata, where he ran a hotel of his own. In the past, the Medellin-born driver was hevily investigated by the local police for allegedly acquiring properties with money coming from drug-related activities. Such an investigation ended with the seizing of property for no less than $9.96 million.
