Citroen C5 1.6 HDi Goes Frugal

Automotive manufacturers are nowadays making more and more efforts to reduce the impact their vehicles have on the environment by cutting fuel consumption and CO2 emissions.

This is the case with the Citroen C5 powered by the 1.6 liter HDi diesel unit, which has been re-homologated for the UK market, as its combined fuel consumption has dropped by 6 percent to 47 mpg, allowing the car to become a road tax free vehicle for the first year of use. The urban cycle fuel consumption figure is now 36.7 mpg (the car previously posted a figure of 32.2 mpg), while in the extra urban cycle, the car returns 56 mpg (the old version of the 1.6 HDi engine posted a figure of 50 mpg).

The Citroen C5 1.6 HDi’s CO2 emissions have dropped from 140 to 130 grams per km.

Besides this 110 hp and 260 Nm of torque entry level unit, the Citroen C5 diesel engine range includes a 2.0 liter unit producing 138 hp and 340 Nm of torque and emitting 157 grams of CO2/km and returning a combined cycle fuel consumption of 39.2 mpg and 2.2 liter unit that develops 173 hp and 370 Nm of torque that posts a fuel consumption figure of 36.1 mpg for the combined cycle and emits 172 grams of CO2 per km. The top of the range engine is a 2.7 liter V6 powerplant, which offers 208 hp and 370 Nm of torque, emits 223 grams of CO2 per km and returns a combine fuel consumption of 28 mpg.

Citroen also offers three naturally aspirated petrol engines: a 127 hp 1.8 liter, a 140 hp 2.0 liter and a 215 hp, 3.0 liter V6.
