Chrysler Mobile TV, Live at the Denver Auto Show

The first US manufacturer to offer live, mobile TV, Chrysler, will showcase the new gizmo at the 2010 Denver Auto Show in between April 7 and 11. The mobile TV is featured on eight 2010 model-year vehicles: Chrysler Town & Country, Jeep Grand Cherokee, Jeep Commander, Dodge Grand Caravan, Dodge Journey, Dodge Nitro, Ram 1500 and Ram 2500/3500.

“We are the first automaker in the United States to offer live, mobile TV in more than 100 metropolitan markets,” Pietro Gorlier, Mopar Service, Parts and Customer Care CEO said.

“Live, mobile TV gives our customers the ultimate in entertainment and it’s a great example of how Mopar adds value to our Chrysler, Jeep, Dodge and Ram Truck brands."

Chrysler's mobile TV works by receiving the TV signal through a dedicated multicast network, created by FLO TV. The hardware used for the technology is manufactured by Audiovox and consists of a small antenna, a receiver and the required wiring, as well as wireless remote controls.

No satellite dishes on vehicle roofs are required. The system is priced at $629, plus installation and comes with a one year pre-paid subscription.

Customers can get the system as a dealer-installed option for the vehicles which feature factory DVD entertainment systems. It can also be added to 2008-2010 model-year vehicles. It comes with a 3-year/36,000-mile warranty on new vehicles or a 12-month/12,000-mile warranty on used vehicles for hardware and installation.
