Chris Vermeulen Drives the 2011 Jeep Grand Cherokee

Still recovering from a complicated knee operation, Chris Vermeulen is in Melbourne for the Yamaha Phillip Island Round of the Superbike World Championship. In order to get to and from the track, the Aussie World Superbike rider will use not a two-wheeled ride, but the all-new 2011 Jeep Grand Cherokee.

Vermeulen therefore profits as much as he can from the 347hp and 520 Nm of torque developed by the 5.7-liter Hemi V8 engine placed under the car’s hood.

The 2011 Jeep Grand Cherokee is available in Australia in three spec levels – Laredo, Limited and the Overland variant, priced from AUD45,000. “This is an incredible vehicle, you just couldn’t ask for anything more, inside or out,” said Chris Vermeulen. “Even though I’m a two wheel man, I mightn’t be too keen to give this Jeep back!”

Akira Yanagawa has been selected to replace injured Vermeulen for Phillip Island, alongside regular KRT riders Tom Sykes and Joan Lascorz.

"We decided as a team that the best thing was not to race or test at Phillip Island. It is unfortunate because it is my home round and I have gone through such a long recovery already,” Vermeulen said. “It would have been nice to start off the season fit and strong but we did not want to risk any further damage to my knee. Just as importantly, I am not fit enough to compete at the top level yet so it is better to not ride at the moment. My knee is improving and the recovery is going to plan, so hopefully by Donington I will be ready to race again. I have nearly five weeks from now to get ready for that round."
