China-Built Volkswagen Passat CC Goes Live in June

Moving a quarter, a half or even the whole production of a specific model production to China seems to be a smart choice for today's automakers, as this particular country is one of the few that managed to grow during these difficult times. And Volkswagen knows that so it started building several models in China, including the Passat CC that will go on sale in China in June 2010.

The report issued by China Car Times claims the car will be marketed locally as CC because Volkswagen is already selling several versions of the Passat in the country.

The car will employ a 2.0-liter TSI engine, already available on the Magotan (a.k.a. the Passat), but no AWD systems will be offered. Pricing is likely to start at around 250,000rmb ($36,600).

In Europe, Volkswagen introduced in late 2009 the Passat CC R-Line, a special designation that brings multiple sporty enhancements at both the interior and the exterior.

For instance, the car comes with 17-inch R-Line Mallory alloy wheels (18-inch are available as optional) plus 235/45 tires. Additionally, it has a new front spoiler and side skirts painted in the same color as the rest of the body, while the rear lights are smoked.

Inside, the CC R-Line has four customised tread plates in aluminum (with R-Line Logo in front) and a three-spoke leather-trimmed steering wheel with multifunction keys. Front fog lights, sport seats, a climate control function and VW's Park Pilot system are also included in the package.
