Chevrolet Volt Driven by 6,348 People

6,348: the number of people which climbed aboard the soon to be launched Chevrolet Volt and drove it around in the US cities where the Volt Unplugged Tour arrived this year. Is it small, the number, or not?

GM thinks it's not. It fact, it considers the entire tour, which comprised 12 cities, a hit. And they may be right, given the fact that the Volt, yet to go on sale, has perhaps received more attention that Ford's Fiesta did in the over one year long market preparation.

The vehicles used in the tour covered 4,124 miles in the 70 drive events organized together with electric vehicle proponents and associations, utilities, corporations, universities, and local conferences. Pretty much all the 6,348 people which drove the Volt in these events say they were pleased with it.

“The driver testimonials illustrate the diverse offerings of the Volt with comments on its unique extended-range capability, its styling, and its performance,” said John Hughes, Chevrolet Volt marketing manager. “We were excited to see the enthusiastic response to the Volt we received from everyone who drove it.”

The Volt will be launched next month in San Francisco, Los Angeles and San Diego. It will come six exterior colors and will offer will offer a Premium Trim Package for the interior. The base price for the model, before applying federal or state incentives, is $41,000.

With the electric motors working like range extenders, the Volt promises a total range of about 340 miles (547 km) and will ensure an all-electric range of up to 50 miles (80 km).
