Chevrolet Spark Proves Solid in Crash on Windy Russian Road

When on a twisty bit of road, at the wheel of a narrow city car, with narrow tires, a narrow power band from a small engine, the chance of understeering into an obstacle (moving or not) is not-so-narrow. This video shows a Chevrolet Spark / Daewoo Matiz driver who tries an overtaking maneuver in a dipping bend, and with cars coming the other way.
The Spark driver panics, turns the wheels on full lock to the right and slams on the brakes. The result? He smashes into a Toyota Camry with some force. We were honestly surprised as to how well it actually fared in the crash, as it is the typical offset frontal crash tested by Euro NCAP, where it didn’t do particularly well (only got three stars).

However, the key mistake here was locking the wheels, which in a car with a bad chassis and front wheel drive (the Spark/Matiz, for instance), leads to serious understeer and stability issues. Thankfully, this time nobody got hurt.
