There’s no denying that Texas is truck country, but as popular as pickups are in the Lone Star State, college football reigns supreme this time of year. Showing where its allegiances lie (among Texas schools, anyway), Chevrolet has just announced the 2015 Silverado University of Texas Special Edition as a $795 option.
Available on certain trim levels, the UT Special Edition starts off with an exclusive application of Chevrolet’s Sunset Orange Metallic paint job. Coming about as close as Chevy can get to UT’s burnt orange school color, this package is the only way to get a 2015 Silverado painted in this hue. Sunset Orange Metallic has been used in recent years on Chevrolet products including the Colorado, Avalanche and fourth-gen Camaro, and a similar color (Daytona Sunrise Orange Metallic) will be used on the 2015 Corvette for an extra $495.

Leaving no doubt as to the owner’s team of choice, the 2015 Chevrolet Silverado UT Special Edition will add a rally stripe on the cargo bed that prominently displays the Longhorns’ logo and another logo on the tailgate. The UT Special Edition can only be added to Silverado Double Cab models with the LT or LTZ trim levels or Silverado Crew Cab LTZ trucks, and buyers must also opt for the $1,895 Texas Edition package, which adds a trailering package with locking rear differential, specific mirrors and door handles (body-colored on the LT and chrome for the LTZ) 20-inch chrome wheels and a “Texas Edition” badge on the front doors.

Aside from the color and logos, the UT Special Edition package also comes with a standard spray-in bed liner, which is usually a $475 standalone option and chrome side steps.

"This is an exciting way for Longhorns everywhere to show their Texas pride as they cruise America's highways and byways, and I'm glad to see that Bevo XIV [UT's longhorn mascot] will continue to ride in style. We appreciate our great partnership with Chevrolet and their support of Texas Athletics," said Steve Patterson, director of men's athletics at the University of Texas.
