The launch of the 2015 Chevrolet Colorado and 2015 GMC Canyon started out with good news for General Motors as dealers placed orders for nearly 30,000 of the mid-size pickup trucks in a short period of time. Now comes the good news for dealers and customers alike as GM announced the first shipments of the trucks have left the Wentzville, MO plant and are headed to dealerships.
While it’s not clear when the Colorado and Canyon will be delivered into customer hands, GM released images of trucks of the two models leaving the assembly plant today. There has been a lot of interest since the ordering process for the Colorado and Canyon opened up, and GM says that it has received more than 100,000 visitors to the trucks’ configuration sites to build potential vehicles.

We have heard our customers loud and clear – they want a modern midsize truck that’s refined and capable. We’re excited to introduce them to the Canyon. We’re confident the Canyon will redefine the segment, with the latest technologies and premium materials throughout,” said Duncan Aldred, U.S. vice president of GMC.

Aside from the need for a more modern mid-size truck, the popularity for the Colorado and Canyon has likely been so strong because of their impressive balance between pricing and fuel economy. Although GM has yet to reveal fuel economy for the base 2.5-liter engine, two-wheel-drive versions of the Colorado and Canyon equipped with the optional 3.6-liter V-6 have EPA-rated fuel economy estimates of 18 mpg city and 26 mpg highway. The base engine will be even more efficient, but next year’s introduction of the 2.8-liter Duramax turbo diesel should set a new bar for pickup truck fuel efficiency.

In terms of pricing, the 2015 Chevrolet Colorado ranges from $20,995 for the base 2WD model up to $31,660 for a well-equipped Crew Cab Z71 4WD. On the GMC side, the 2015 Canyon starts at $21,880 and currently tops out at $38,175 for the Crew Cab SLT 4WD.
