Some people consider alcohol as an incentive when going through highly-stressful situations, while others are just addicted to it. We're not jumping to conclusions as far the Chelsea soccer star John Obi Mikel is concerned but the fact that he was involved in DUI incident the very day of Chelsea's FA Cup match might not be a simple coincidence.
According to The Sun, the Nigerian Mikel was busted for drunken-driving at 5:30 a.m. on Saturday after cops had spotted him driving his Range Rover “erratically” outside the club’s ground. Naturally, he was asked to give a breath test which proved his impairment and consequently, he was put in a police cell.
However, a Chelsea source claimed that Mikel didn't have to play that day due to a decision of the manager Luiz Felipe “Big Phil” Scolari.
As a matter of fact, Mikel will have to face the anger of his manager after things are solved out. “Big Phil will be furious. He was given the match off to rest and is pulled by the police at 5.30 a.m. The club will want a very good explanation,” the source said.
Furthermore, a Chelsea spokesman claimed they “are aware he was arrested and charged. We want to establish the facts before we comment.”
The footballer might be banned from driving for at least one year and spend maximum six months in jail with a £5,000 fine. The final decision will be taken on April 3 when Mikel is due to appear before West London magistrates.
