Despite the fact that the particular model we are talking about in this piece is still some 5 years away, we can't help but get excited at the prospects of seeing a coupe version of the Volkswagen Golf roaming the streets.
According to French Automobile Magazine, the German manufacturer is preparing to release, together with what may be the seventh generation Golf, a coupe version which may look something like this.
A coupe with a twist, as the Germans have their very own way of interpreting the coupe body. As seen in the Passat CC, the new Golf will also be a four-door coupe, wearing the same CC designation as the Passat.
Of course, making a coupe Golf could make some wonder if the new vehicle will be worthy of the Golf name. A hatchback by definition, the Volkswagen Golf, if indeed in the works, may both strip some of the appeal of the car and give some of Volkswagen's models, like the Jetta or Passat, a competitor from within their own ranks.
The French magazine says the Golf CC will be based on the platform of the next generation Audi A3 and that's about it. Of course, being set to be released in 2014 (a 2012 model year Golf is not completely out of the question), it is to early to speculate on what will be powering the Golf 7.
Most definitely, a hybrid powerplant will find its way under the hood of the future Golf, although details are far from being known. If the Golf CC will see daylight, it will too adopt the powerplants of its hatch cousins, including the hybrid.
