Affalterbach may have made wonders when it came to touching the G-Classe, but with a behemoth such as the G63 AMG, you can never have too much stopping power.
This is where the aftermarket world, the one that isn't directly connected to the mother ship as it happens with AMG, comes into play. And we're here to discuss a ceramic brake kit for the outlandishly powerful offroader.

We've now brought you a few real-life photos showing a Mercedes G63 AMG wearing a set of massive ceramics coming from Edo Competition.

The German tuner released a complete G63 package last year, but official photos tend to introduce an artificial focus on certain aspects. On the other hand, the smartphone photos we have here, which were taken inside the garage, not in a cool setup used by photogs, show us the real deal.

Getting into the details, we'll mention the front axle receives 398mm rotors with six-piston fixed calipers, while the rear axle is gifted with380mm discs, also using six-piston grabbers.

The brake pads feature a Sports configuration that can take quite some heat, while the brake line comes from Stahlflex.

Ceramic brakes are not without their drawbacks (think costs and sometimes an odd cold braking soundtrack), while the unsprung weight reduction doesn't matter all that much, given the solid axle configuration of the G-Class. But, as we mention above, the improved stopping power and extra fading resistance fit this military-derived piece of machinery like a glove.

While we're at it, we'll remind you Edo's G63 AMG package also includes an ECU remap that takes the twin-turbo V8 from 544 to 600 PS, while boosting torque from 760 Nm (561 lb-ft) to 900 Nm (664 lb-ft).

A valve-controlled exhaust system ensures the vee eight can fully express its feelings, while the cabin offers the usual array of available trim and finish materials. In fact, we've added the official photos alongside the fresh ones (first four pics) in the gallery below, showcasing the entire range of mods.
