The top version of the upcoming Mercedes-Benz C-Class Cabriolet has just been spotted alongside its close relative, the Mercedes-AMG C43 Cabriolet, and it makes it really hard not to think of summer.
The new C-Class has been a hit, its “smaller S-Class” look proving to be a real success among the brand’s fans, but especially with those who wouldn’t have considered a Mercedes-Benz before. The Coupé version launched last year took things even further, presenting itself as the most beautiful sedan-based two-door car Mercedes-Benz has come up with in a while.

The Cabriolet, then, has no reason to disappoint. It is marked to be revealed shortly, but the car you see in the small gallery below is the sporty AMG C63 Cabriolet. Mercedes didn’t want to confirm its existence right from the off, and for a while we were led to believe the AMG C43 Cabriolet (then still called C450 AMG Cabriolet) was going to be the fastest roofless C-Class we were going to get.

Things have been cleared in the meantime, and this spotting of the C63 Cabriolet eliminates any trace of doubt: the C-Class family is going to get one more model, and it’s going to be a blast. Just the thought alone of hearing that V8 growl and the fantastic AMG exhaust notes free of any obstacle in their way towards your ears is enough to look forward to this vehicle.

There are plenty of others as well, but none of them is really new. The exterior of the test car might be covered in camouflage, but anything below the window line is going to be virtually identical to the Coupé version. So no surprises there. Mercedes decided to go for a soft top - which is still considered the classier option of the two, ahead of the folding metallic roof - but that won’t require any compromises regarding noise levels or temperature.

Not that the top will stay up most of the time, as the new (for the C-Class) AIRCAP feature allows open-air driving even when the temperatures don’t normally recommend it.

Unlike the AMG C43 Cabriolet, which is powered by a V6 engine, the C63 will get the 4.0-liter V8 that churns out 510 hp in its most powerful state. That should prove enough for more than decent performance figures from the C63 Cabriolet, but if it’s supreme sportiness you’re after, it would make more sense to get the Coupé.

The standard, non-AMG C-Class Convertible is expected to debut at the Geneva Motor Show in March, while the C63 should be joining it later this year. As usual, expect its price to be slightly over that of the Mercedes-AMG C63 Coupé.
